Why you should stop buying Resin Smoking Supplies

You can’t scroll far through Instagram or Tiktok these days without coming across a reel or post that includes resin.

Pretty much anything can be made from resin as long as you have a silicone mould to hand.

Unfortunately resin has got its non-environmentally friendly hands on the smoking industry – You can find products from ashtrays to grinders and there are even water pipes made from resin.

But are resin based products safe for us smokers to be using?

What harm can resin cause?

It’s been tested that whilst lit a cigarette can reach up to 400 degrees celsius. That’s a temperature of around 2x higher than the melting point for resin!

The melting point for resin is around 150 – 200 degrees Celsius, which means if the lit end touches resin (resting on a resin ashtray) it will melt.

Releases toxic fumes

Melting resin releases toxic fumes that are harmful for humans to inhale.

Flakes of resin smoked

When using resin grinders bits of resin can flake away and mix into your cannabis flower.

Smoking small bits of resin can harm our lungs and damage our health.

It won’t decompose for years and years

Resin is a form of plastic made from fossil fuels which means it won’t break down for years, if not at all.

Fossil fuels are not sustainable or renewable.

What can we do?

Don’t throw away any resin products you already own but definitely think twice before purchasing your next resin based product.

Resin artists are super talented and can create some stunning and aesthetic pieces however for smokers it’s not an ideal material.

There are many alternatives to use in place of resin for smoking supplies such as hemp, bamboo and wood.

I recommend checking out Etsy to find hemp and wood smoking supplies
